TADs
TAD stands for Temporary Anchorage Device (TAD)
Small titanium anchors, known as TADs, may be utilized in certain orthodontic situations to speed up the movement of teeth and improve patient comfort. As an alternative to or in addition to headgear, TADs are a viable option.
How are TADs positioned?
Before the TAD is inserted, the gums and surrounding jaw are numbed with a powerful anesthetic. A local anesthetic will be used to numb the region before the TAD is inserted into the jawbone. A TAD procedure may be completed in a matter of seconds, and you may not even realize it. You may feel some pressure while your doctor inserts the TAD, but this will subside within a day. Once your treatment is finished, or when it is no longer necessary to straighten your teeth, your TAD will be removed. The technique to remove a TAD is quick and painless.
What can I do to alleviate my TAD discomfort?
Tylenol® should be used if you experience any pain as a result of having your TADs implanted. Please contact your orthodontist immediately if you continue to feel pain after your treatment.
What can I do to keep my TAD free of debris?
By brushing your teeth at least three times a day, you can clean your TAD as you clean your braces. We will also provide you with an antibacterial mouthwash to use twice a day after your TAD is implanted.
